This case examines the dynamic political risks arising from a contract extension with local partners in the context of the political turmoil unfolding in Syria. Cambell Technologies, a US software company, was considering extending its license agreement with Elevate, its Damascus-based distributor. Elevate’s strong sales performance and strong management seemed to justify an extension of the deal, but the possibility of political change in Syria added potential new variables to Campbell’s calculation. The protagonist of the case, Steven Fox, CEO of the risk assessment and consulting firm Veracity Worldwide, had to assess the risks and advise the CEO of Campbell on whether to renew his relationship with Elevate Software Solutions.
