In June 2001, the owners of this fast-growing small sports promotion business were considering the financial implications of their growth plans. Threshold Sports organizes professional cycling races and holds major racing licenses for several major cities in the US It seeks to rapidly expand the number of events it runs, eventually bringing professional cycling in the United States to a level comparable to that in Europe. The growth prospects create a funding requirement of $ 500,000. The case presents three financing alternatives: borrowed capital, capital stock, and convertible preferred shares. The students’ task is to evaluate the alternatives and make a recommendation. The choice largely depends on the estimated value of the business.
