In January 2000, two medium-sized UK high-tech companies, Stream and Line, announced their merger agreement. On May 6, 2000, one of the largest high-tech companies with a capitalized market value of more than US $ 84 billion officially launched on the world’s stock exchanges in a record four-month period. On August 1, the company will celebrate its launch with global satellite connections in the presence of newly appointed CEO Roger Farrell. This series of three consecutive cases tells the story of the merger from the perspective of one of the business units, the sales organization, in the UK. The first case, “The history of a merger”, covers the period from January 2000 to August 2000. It features the key figure in all three cases, Anne Wright, the newly appointed president of the sales organization. After describing the business and culture of the two companies that merge, the two most emotional events that the protagonist faced at the beginning of her position are described: her introduction to the acquired company Stream and the process of selection and location announcement . The second case, “Building the New Organization,” covers the second half of 2000. It describes the painful experience of those who were left with the failed and closed location and the path of those who temporarily relocate to the winning location. After reviewing the appeals process, it will be reported how the company brings to life the new values โ€‹โ€‹of the merged company. The third case, “The Bumpy Road to Transformation,” provides an overview of key activities in 2001 and 2002. It opens as you go through the remaining frustrations that middle management has experienced. This is followed by an overview of the UK and global company systems and initiatives to prepare the organization for the challenges of the future.
