The note explains the Solvency II supervisory regime for insurance companies. It focuses in depth on the capital requirements of companies taking into account underwriting, market, counterparty and operational risks. It also looks at the implications for insurance company strategies, such as target industries and premiums receivable. Finally, the impact on the insured is considered, whether they are natural or legal persons. As with the Basel regulations, this will result in a more solvent sector with possible premium increases and neglect of some businesses.
