Shopster.com is a Calgary-based e-commerce company whose business is to help other individuals or businesses establish their own retail transaction websites. Shopster differs significantly from common website developers in that retailers can choose from a huge inventory of salable products through the Shopster merchandise supplier network. Shopster also provides software and expertise tools so that anyone who wants to create an online retail store can create an online retail store quickly and easily. The Shopster business has performed well so far, but there are still many operational challenges ahead. In addition, the builders would like to raise the bar significantly higher, what they call “Shopster 2.0”, whose special features are still under construction. The Shopster case is an interesting example of a small but fast-growing Canadian company with an innovative business model and big dreams for the future.
