This two-part case revolves around a mandate from Ganesh Purandare, head of financial services at SDL, a growing software development company, to Mohua Sen, the division’s head of hiring, asking them to reduce hiring times. At SDL, all lateral hires are made against a billable opportunity. Therefore, timely or early fulfillment is not only crucial to ensure project results, but also to answer the immediate billing question. Part A: Mohua Sen is reviewing the full timeline of the process and is considering reducing hiring times. The principles of business process reengineering are used to investigate the problem of reducing process cycle time. Students are asked to suggest possible solutions.
