A technical consultant travels to New York Bakery and a bankruptcy asset in the eastern United States. The consultant’s job is to assess New York Bakery’s willingness to install a new payroll system that will help them emerge from bankruptcy. Already in the first week of work, the consultant realizes that his task is bigger than he imagined. In trying to help the organization prepare for the transition, he is faced with a series of difficult decisions that require his immediate attention. The goal of this case series is to expose students to leadership dilemmas that must be decided in real time. Together, the series of decisions that the consultant must make will determine whether the project stays on track or derails.
