After two years as Internal Vice President of Making Waves London (MWL), Brianna Murphy was ready to take up her elected position as President of MWL for 2011-2012. MWL was mandated to provide affordable and accessible swimming lessons to children with special needs. Her time as her vice president had convinced her that a change was needed. MWL had grown in recent years and faced a variety of service issues, from capacity to quality. The biggest of these was the difficulty in attracting qualified instructors; enrollment higher than expected leading to waiting lists; lack of pool capacity; and financing. Murphy wanted to make sure that MWL was the best possible adaptive water program, but wasn’t sure how to address and prioritize issues.
