Kaps Foods India Private Limited (Kaps), a private company, was a leading ice cream manufacturer based in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, central India. The company’s production unit had the capacity to produce 20,000 liters of ice cream per day in 65 different storage units. In December 2016, Kaps addressed a supply-demand mismatch problem. Seasonal demand for ice cream has created an imbalance between supply and demand for some types of ice cream, and this situation has led to customer dissatisfaction. The shortage of some types of ice cream has caused losses in sales and goodwill. The company’s sales and marketing manager became aware of the problem while reviewing customer feedback forms. He needed to determine how the problem was affecting Kaps performance and what to do to resolve it.
