KaBOOM! is a non-profit organization that develops playgrounds in partnership with businesses and communities. It has become a national organization since 1995 that has built 338 playgrounds in association with more than 40 companies. This case analyzes the nature of strategic alliances with companies and offers options for changing strategies. This includes an emphasis on advocacy and public education, as well as empowering communities to build playgrounds for themselves. The strategy was further complicated by increasing competition from nonprofit and for-profit companies involved in the development of playgrounds.
