Jim Poss’ company, Seahorse Power Co. (SPC), was an engineering company that pioneered the introduction of products that were cheaper and more efficient than 20th century technologies. Poss was confident that his first product, a patent-pending solar-powered trash compactor, could make a real difference. After funding product development and testing, SPC had six team members in May 2004. All had received an equity stake in exchange for their part-time service. Poss was looking for funds to take the business to the next level, larger production with reduced component costs and increased production efficiency. It records the development of the company and places Poss at the critical point in deciding how best to deal with potential investors and financing alternatives.
