In 2014, Ifeoma Fafunwa, an award-winning playwright and director, founded iOpenEye, a commercial production company dedicated to promoting social change through performing arts. IOpenEye’s flagship theater production was called Hear Word! Naija Woman Talk True, who shared narratives of Nigerian women’s struggles. Until 2019 “Hear the word!” made his international debut and performed in sold-out shows at prestigious venues such as the American Repertory Theater and the prestigious Edinburgh International Festival. In the spring of 2020, COVID arrived and venues were closed, giving Fafunwa new opportunities like streaming content and monitoring production levels. What steps would she take to get iOpenEye and Hear the Word? be successful for five years? Fafunwa considered his next step knowing that it had to be an iOpenEye 2.0 business model.
