This case, set in May 2008, reflects the different perspectives of CEOs Tom Eliot and Bill Flinder as they negotiate a price and an exchange relationship with RSE International Corporation to acquire Flinder Valves and Controls Inc. The design intent of the case is Have students organize into teams and be assigned to play the role of Flinder Valves or RSE International in the negotiations. The case provides supplemental private information for each side of the transaction. Therefore, a unique element of the case is the negotiation of the terms of the acquisition in an environment of asymmetric information. The case is relatively simple and offers a first exercise to negotiate an acquisition. It could also be taught in the usual case discussion form instead of the intended joint negotiation exercise.
