This case covers Christine Lagarde’s career from 2005 to 2011 after joining the French government. After several grueling years as Finance Minister during the financial crisis that began in 2007/2008, she is considered the next CEO of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). As the IMF’s first female president, she would lead a very complex organization of 187 members, typically led by economists. She likes the ability to get better results on some of the world’s toughest problems, but she needs to carefully weigh the risks.
